Japanese Geisha Dolls

Japanese Geisha Dolls are a marvelous addition to any Asian inspired interior design. The primary appeal of geisha dolls in Oriental decor is the combination of the extravagently designed kimono, mystical makeup, elaborate hairstyles and wide range of facial expressions ranging from joyous to solemn.

Like any other product, there are quality geisha dolls and awful geisha dolls. The bad dolls are poorly made, likely to break, have bad detailing and sometimes just look plain terrible. These dolls are the best Japanese geisha dolls I have found so far.

The image Westerners typically associate with the geisha is actually the traditional image of the maiko or 'apprentice geisha'. The maiko is actually in a stage of training, learning the way of a geisha via her senior geisha. Most geisha dolls are designed from traditional dress of the maiko due to the beauty and extravegance of their dress, hairstyles and makeup.

Over time, the elaborate appearance of the maiko has been associated with a geisha, particularly in Western culture. Geisha in Japan have also gadually incorporated the imagery of the maiko into some of their more elaborate perfomances.
